3) What is the percentage increase in the new admissions of school R from 1998 to 2002 ?
  1. 32.1%
  2. 46.8%
  3. 48.6%
  4. 50.5%

4) During the year 2002, in how many schools is the number of new admissions more than 300 ?
  1. 0
  2. 1
  3. 3
  4. 4

5) In which of the following years is the number of new admissions in every school more than that in the previous year by at least twenty ?
  1. 1999
  2. 2000
  3. 2001
  4. 2002

Solutions:

Q. 1) Among the given schools, the number of new admissions of the boys is the least for R compared to any other school in every year. Hence the total number of new admissions for R will be the lowest.

Ans:- R (Choice A)

Q. 2) If the ratio of the number of admissions of the girls to the number of admissions of boys is found, this comparison will hold good for the comparison of the number of admissions for the girls to the total number of admissions for boys and girls.

The ratio of number of admission of girls to that of

the boys in 1998 = 103/149 = 1/1.4
the boys in 1999 = 110/152 = 1/1.3
the boys in 2000 = 118/159 = 1/1.3
the boys in 2001 = 129/172 = 1/1.3
the boys in 2002 = 143/198 = 1/1.3

Since the denominator is the greatest for the ratio in 1998, the value of the ratio will be the least.

Ans:- 1998 (Choice A)

Q.3) New admissions in school R during 1998 is 190 and during 2002 it is 279.

                                         279-190
   Percentage increase =   ----------- x 100
                                           190
                                   = 46.8%
Ans:- 46.8% (Choice B)

Q.4) During the year 2002, the number of new admissions is more than 300 in the schools P, Q, S and T.

Ans:- 4 (Choice D)

Q.5) The new admissions for boys in 1999 over 1998 in school P is = 137-123 = 14
and for girls it is 108-101 = 7.
                                                        14 + 7 = 21 >20.
For school Q, it is (152 - 149) + (110 -103) = 3 + 7 = 10 <20.

Since the given condition is not satisfied by school Q, in 1999, this cannot be the answer choice.
In this way, by observing keenly and eliminating the wrong choices, we find that the answer, is 2001.

Ans:- 2001 (Choice C)
