General Awareness About Great Inventions in World


Penicillin:

Fungal spores that drifted through these windows in central London led Alexander Fleming to discover the first antibiotic in 1928. By the mid-1940s, work in the UK and US led to the first penicillin reaching patients.


DNA Double Helix:

The reconstruction of the first ever model of the DNA molecule contains some of the original parts used by Francis Crick and James Watson in 1953. Their breakthrough made it possible to understand both how organisms pass on their genes and how the working of cells are governed.




Electric Telegraph:


Charles Wheatstone and William Cooke patented the world's first successful electric telecommunications device in 1837, for long-distance communication network. India discontinued telegraph in 2013. US and Europe discontinued it in 2006.



Frozen Foods:

Before frozen foods, fruits and vegetables would go bad. Thanks to Clarence Birdseye in 1923, that all changed. Today frozen foods are just for convenience  that we can just pop in the microwave.


Microwave Oven:

It was Percy Spencer that noticed that these radar waves melted the candy bar in his pocket. Due to his discovery in 1945, the first commercial microwave went on the market in 1954.



Automated Teller Machine (ATM):

The ATM was invented in 1939 by Luther George Simjian. Imagine how in our modern day most of us have become so dependant


Music Records:

In 1948, Peter Goldmark invented the long playing record or LP record. That same year, Robert Hope-Jones invented the Wurlitzer Jukebox. The idea of having a musical selection in a public area.

Air conditioner:

The First air Conditioner that regulated both humidity and temperature was invented in 1902 by Willis Haviland Carrier. It was originally designed to keep a printing company cool so that the temperature didn't alter the print and images on paper.

Bottle Making:

Think, how many bottled items you use. Michael j. Owens did it in 1903.


Cotton Picker:

The first practical spindle cotton picker was invented by John Rust in 1927.




Insulin:

In 1922, two inventors made things a lot easier and safer for diabetic patients. Sir Frederick Grant Banting invented insulin and Helen Free invented the home diabetes test.




Dialysis Machine:

In 1944, Willem Kolff invented a machine that can temporarily replace kidney function to a patient that has failing kidneys. Through this treatment doesn't do the job permanently, it has saved lives.



Tractor:

The tractor was invented in 1904 by Benjamin Holt not only helped farming but also inspired making of military tanks.



Disposable Razor:

In 1901, the disposable razor blades was patented by King C. Gillette. By the end of the decade, he was a millionaire.


Washing Machine:

What really revolutionized the washing machine was when the first electric washing machine was invented in 1908. The "Thor" washing machine was invented by Alva Fisher and was introduced by Hurley Machine Company.


Movies With Sound:

Imagine watching a silent film now. In 1923, Lee Deforest invented sound film.

Television:

The first electronic television was invented in 1923 by philo Farnsworth. In 1940, Peter Goldmark invented the first color television set.




Electroencephalograph (EEG):

In 1929, Hans Berger invented the device that records brain pulses to help diagnose epilepsy, measuring brain activity among comatose patients.


Adhesive Bandage:

In the 1020's to help prevent certain infections, Earle Dickson invented the adhesive bandage (band aid).


X-Ray:

In 1895 the physicist Wilhelm Rontgen discovered X-rays, the "X" signifying their then unknown origin. He later found that the rays could pass through flesh and by using photographic plates could make images of bones inside the body. X-ray of Roentgen's wife's hand was taken in december 1895 and is the oldest surviving X-ray image of a part of the human body.
